A concert enthusiast, dog mom, and five-year employee at AZTEC Financial Group — that's Joie Townsend for you! In honor of her fifth year with us, we're going to take a moment to give her some recognition.
Joie is one of Eric's two assistants (and I'm the other!). She was hired the summer of 2019, and has been a pillar to the business ever since. Though we both bear the title of "assistant", her advanced knowledge and experience far outweigh mine. Our roles also differ. While I handle the front desk, most phone calls, and marketing, she puts together reports, analyzes data, and rebalances investments, among other things. We also overlap with some tasks, such as account maintenance and troubleshooting. And even though we each have distinct roles, she was still able and willing to train me when I was hired back in November of 2023. I'm incredibly grateful for all the help she has given me so far!
Now, let's learn a little bit more about Joie.
What is your background?
Joie: I did a lot of rambling around the country until I landed in Dover, NH in 1994 when I met my husband Andrew. We were both working as temps at the Timberland Warehouse in Hampton, NH. Since then I have worked in various industries, manufacturing, Medicaid and medical billing, bookkeeping and reception desk for a tax preparer. Temping off and on to learn new skills.
What did you expect when you were hired, and how does it compare to reality?
Joie: I thought I would be writing and running reports, updating spreadsheets mostly. I was pleasantly surprised to find that financial planning is a lot less stressful than taxes and billing! No more "Month End", and I can take time off during tax season. It's been a great five years!
What do you like to do outside of work?
Joie: I have many hobbies. I love to garden. I have mixed borders of bulbs, perennials, and shrubs. I do some quilting, and am learning to make clothing. I'm setting up my woodworking shop in the garage. I'm learning to make organizational items like divided drawers and, well, drawers.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Joie: I want to see the world. ALL of it.
If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing, what would it be?
Joie: Patience!
Five years at AZTEC behind Joie, and hopefully many more to come! Did you learn something new about her? Why not mention it next time you come in for an appointment? This was just the tip of the iceberg; Joie has plenty more surprises up her sleeve.
