Where to Shop Small in the Portsmouth Area This Holiday Season

Small Business Saturday falls on November 27th this year and has inspired the topic of our blog this month – where to shop small in the Portsmouth area. Small businesses are the backbone of the community – what would Portsmouth be without its welcoming, quintessential storefronts?

These stores are often owned (and employed) by our friends, family, and neighbors, and they could use some extra love and support from us right now. Plus, with current supply chain issues and crazy shipping delays predicted this holiday season, small businesses are the way to go. Rather than relying on Amazon and other large distributors to get your packages delivered on time, you are going to want to get out there and shop your local stores.

One of the great things about Portsmouth is that all you need to do is park your car and start walking, and you will trip over so many unique and independently owned shops. You should be able to find everything you need to fulfill your holiday shopping list, aside from, say, that iPhone 13 you've been eyeing or the newest video game obsession for your niece.

The gifts you will find at these shops won't be the same items you see year after year at major retailers. You'll find a variety of handmade, local, and one-of-a-kind gifts that don't feel overdone. And the owner is likely to greet you with a smile and make an effort to go the extra mile for you. Is something out of stock? They will call you the second it becomes available. Want something personalized? They will start working on it – ASAP.

If you're someone who likes to attack your shopping list head-on or looking for a bit of inspiration, be sure to check out some of the following Portsmouth area boutiques and retailers; you won't be disappointed by what you find!
